The Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema was the focal point of national attention at the weekend as golfers from across Ghana converged to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Swing held in honour of Mona Captan, widely regarded as the country’s most accomplished female golfer.
The one-day tournament brought together golfers of different generations in a vibrant celebration of her remarkable legacy and decades of contribution to the sport.

The event, organised by the Centre of the World Golf Club, drew strong backing from Tema Women’s Hospital, Landers Group, Tang Palace Hotel, Nuvel Premium Tissues, Vaseline under Unilever, Senchi Hotel, Bell Aqua, Zed Media, and a range of other partners.
Veteran golfers including Florence Entwi-Barimah, Elizabeth Koomson, Beatrice Vetch Bimpong, Maggie Baah Owusu, Mike Aggrey, Rodney Oddoye, Kwaku Okyere, Prince Kofi Amoabeng and Joshua Prempeh featured prominently. They were joined by younger competitors who brought renewed energy to the fairways, many eager for the chance to honour a player whose influence has shaped their own paths in golf.
Following hours of competitive play, the gathering moved to Hole 18 for the announcement of winners across the various divisions. In the Men’s Group A category, Francis Amuzu secured the top spot ahead of Christopher Mbii, Isaac Aninakwah and Rikie Hurtubise. George Wisbon Mensah claimed victory in Men’s Group B, with Philip Dodu Fynn and Bernard Atsuanagbonu placing second and third. Men’s Group C was won by Kojo Atta Ayetey, followed by Patrick Darko and Patrick Amoah Bekoe.

In the Ladies Group A division, recent Head of State Invitational Tournament champion Floria Hurtubise extended her fine form, finishing ahead of Catherine Fabbi and Letitia Amponsah-Mensah. The Ladies Group B category saw Naomi Teye-Lartey emerge winner, with Angelica Ayanful and Belinda Kumako taking second and third place. Among the seniors, Issah Adam topped the Men’s division ahead of Michael Aggrey and Paul Ayitia, while Maggie Owusu led the Ladies Seniors field, followed by Florence Etwi-Berimah and Hajia Zenabu Akoto.
The closing ceremony featured heartfelt tributes from several speakers, including Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Leonard Kwaku Okeyer of the Ghana Golf Association, club officials and veteran lady golfers. They reflected on Captan’s mentorship, leadership and unwavering dedication to advancing golf in Ghana, with many sharing personal stories of her influence both on and off the course.
The Golden Jubilee Swing served not only as a celebration of a trailblazer but also as a reaffirmation of her enduring impact as a champion and role model. Mona Captan’s legacy, deeply rooted in excellence and service to the sport, continues to inspire golfers across generations and remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s golfing story.
