Gyan, Dede for top SWAG award

Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan and his deputy, Andre Dede Ayew, have been nominated for the 2014 Footballer of the Year award alongside reliable defender Harrison Afful.

The Stars trio will vie for the prestigious award at the SWAG Awards ceremony at a later date.

Nominees for the Premiership Player of the Year are Abeiku Ainooson, Kwabena Edusei and Augustine Okrah.

The Discovery of the Year award will go to athletics sensation, Martha Bissah, for winning gold medal at the 2014 Youth Olympics in Beijing, China, while Sharon Akwei goes for the Promising Star of the Year after winning bronze at the World Para-Taekwondo Championship in Russia.

The Female Footballer of the Year is Jennifer Cudjoe; and Amateur Boxer Of the Year - Umar Abdul Walid - for winning bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.  

The other nominees are Richard Commey - Professional Boxer of the Year - for winning the Commonwealth lightweight title; Judoka of the Year - Razak Abugri  -  for winning bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland; Taekwondo Player of the Year - Sharon Akwei; Hockey Player of the Year - Elizabeth Opoku, Athlete of the Year - Martha Bissah; and Coach of the Year-Isaac Nii Odartey Lamptey (Coach of Martha Bissah).

The rest are Kumasi Asante Kotoko - Club of the Year (for winning the League and FA Cup), Ali Jaraa (Dedication & Valour for his commitment to the development of amputee football and football in general), J.O. Lamptey (football) - Referee of the Year for being the most consistent Ghanaian referee on the international scene.

Special awards will also be given to Edmund Zankoh (hockey development), Anthony Baffoe (contribution to the development of football), Magnus Rex Danquah – contribution to the development of sports and Akolya Pattel (cricket development), in addition to some corporate awards to McDan Ghana Limited, uniBank Ghana Limited and Dwadifo Adanfo.
