Idas win rugby league
For the first time in three seasons, Idas Sports dethroned Cosmos Buffalos in the Beaufort Properties Senior 15s Rugby Union League when they beat Dansoman Hurricanes last Saturday to be crowned champions of the 2013/14 season at the University of Ghana rugby pitch.
Idas, who finished third in last season’s league, rose above all others to grab top spot as other teams battled for supremacy at the final league outing.
In the first match which was very much the decider, Idas RFC narrowly beat Dansoman Hurricanes by 8-7 after trailing 7–0 after the first half, while Abura Bombers beat Aggreoguaa 31-0 in the second match.
In the other matches, Oguaaman Ocean Warriors also beat Mfantadisc 3–0 in the third match while Accra Sharks beat Black Panthers 12–0 in the fourth match.
Defending champions, Cosmos Buffalos, displayed a lot of determination to carry the day with a 14–0 win over Legon Titans who were aiming at the spot for the first time.
Idas Sports RFC received GH¢1000 for placing first with 12 points, Legon Titans took GH¢500 for being second with nine points and Cosmos who bagged nine points also went home with GH¢300 with all the participating team receiving certificates.
Other awards given were best coach, most valuable players and the women’s team who received equipment and jerseys, trucksuits and rugby balls.
The Ghana Rugby Association in a statement thanked headline sponsors, Beaufort Properties, Ghana Olympic Committee, Metro Mass Transit Limited and Accra Rugby Club.
