Iddrisu Adams sets new marathon record

Iddrisu Adams of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) set a new national record for the 10.5km mini marathon by winning the Upper West Regional edition of the Millennium Marathon by clocking 29.30 seconds, 30 seconds ahead of the previous record.

It was also his personal best, breaking his previous record of 31 minutes which he set last year.

 

  The previous record was 30minutes. Iddrisu also broke his own personal record which he set last year at 31:00 minutes. The second best time recorded so far in the regions was by Solomon Coffie from the Prisons Service. Who completed the 10.5 kilometre race in 30:38 minutes.

Runners who win the regional races in both male and female categories will receive an automatic placement in an athlete’s programme being instituted by the Millennium Marathon Sports Ltd to groom athletes for the Millennium Marathon scheduled for September 3 in Accra. 

The event is being organised in partnership with the United Nations to raise awareness on  sustainable development goals.

 The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports,  Vincent Asamoah, who opened the race  in Tamale advised parents to nurture the sports potential of their children. 

This year’s event  is being sponsored by the National Investment Bank (NIB), Graphic Sports, Peugeot/WATS, Total Ghana, Inesfly Africa, Krif Ghana, Queiroz Gavao, Ethiopian Airlines, H20 Still Water, Interplast, Goil and Africa World Airlines.
