The 13-year-old prodigy from Armed Forces Primary School at Burma Camp took silver in the 53kg category after a fiery spar with gold medallist Haruna Yasbena of Indonesia.

Kuyon defeated competitors from Germany, Italy and Pakistan to qualify for the final.

He told the Daily Graphic in an interview from his base in Muju that he was overjoyed by this feat and was also grateful to his benefactor, Master Norbert Amefu of Norlympics Taekwondo Academy, for facilitating and sponsoring the trip.

“I hope to build on this achievement and train very hard to win gold for Ghana in future olympics and world championships, he stated”.

His coach, Joe Banfro, is optimistic that Kuyon, whom he described as a skillful attacking taekwondo martial artiste, would be the face of Ghana taekwondo in a couple of years.

He appealed for state support in terms of logistics and equipment to enhance Kuyon’s development.

Mr Banfro thanked Norbert Amefu for ensuring Kuyon participated in the competition to make Ghana proud.
