Medeama consider legal action over Strand’s shock exit

Medeama Sporting Club are considering taking legal action against runaway Coach Tom Strand for leaving them midstream before the end of his tenure.

The Swedish coach went missing immediately after the club’s 1-3 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in their CAF Confederation Cup playoff first leg in Pretoria last Saturday, leaving behind a resignation letter to the surprise of Medeama officials.

Medeama later learnt through Strand’s local agent that the coach had arrived in his native Sweden.

However, the president of Medeama, Moses Armah, told the Graphic Sports on Tuesday that they had referred the matter to their solicitor, Emmanuel Larbi Amoah, for advice.

He revealed that Coach Strand had since been sending him sms messages containing an unqualified apology and a plea for a second chance to make amends.

According to Armah, aka Mospacka, Strand explained he needed to see his family back home but still insisted on being given yet another chance to do a better job with Medeama.

But Mospacka thinks the expatriate coach had a good opportunity to do whatever he could have done but blew it.

Mospacka blamed the coach for Medeama’s heavy defeat to Sundowns, following poor substitutions in the second half.

He noted that Strand removed key players — Samuel Bio and Kwame Boahene — from the game and replaced them with attackers at a time Medeama needed to protect their 1-0 first half lead.

He said in the absence of Strand, the club’s Technical Director, Evans Adotey, would hold the fort until a substantive coach was appointed.

Mospacka, however, gave an assurance that Medeama would qualify for the money zone come May 18 at Essipon.
