Medeama move camp to Sogakope ahead of TP Mazembe clash Sunday

In their desire to put their best foot forward in their CAF Confederation Cup group opener against DR Congo giants TP  Mazembe in their own backyard at Lubumbashi, Tarkwa-based Medeama SC have moved camp to the Volta regional town of Sogakope where they have begun intensive training on the artificial turf of Premier League side WAFA SC.

Medeama moved to Sogakope last  Tuesday, hours after trashing Techiman City 2-0 in a  Premier League match at the Tarkwa Aboso Park, with head coach Prince Yaw Owusu and his charges making good use of the astro turf which is similar to the one the team will play on in Lubumbashi on Sunday.

Yesterday, Medeama played against lower division side Dawhenya FC in a warm-up game at Sogakope, with the club’s Technical Director, Evans Adotey, optimistic about their chances against the former African champions.

He told the Daily Graphic that the friendly was arranged to offer much-needed playing time for players who did not get the opportunity to feature against Techiman City.

“Each of my players is highly motivated because they want to get into the first team.Since we know the ability of our opponents, we are not leaving anything to chance. That is why we are preparing very well for this match so that we get very good results in the away match,” a confident Coach Adotey said.

He added that the ‘mauves’ would have another training session early this morning before rushing to Accra to fly to DR Congo at midday today.

Medeama will also train at the match venue in Lubumbashi tomorrow and Saturday before encountering their opponents on Sunday.

“As I told you, each of my boys is ever ready to play. This is because our main objective is to place first or second in our group to qualify for the next stage of the competition,” he reiterated.

After Sunday’s match, Medeama will return home to play host to Algerian side M.O. Bejaia on June 29 and then travel to Dar es Salaam to encounter Young Africans.
