Mohamed Salah joins Trabzonspor on free transfer

Mohamed Salah has joined Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract following his departure from Liverpool.

The Egypt international left Anfield at the end of last season after mutually agreeing with Liverpool to terminate his contract a year early, bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year spell at the club.

The decision cut short the contract extension Salah had agreed in April 2025, following a difficult final season in which he was dropped and became embroiled in a public dispute with then-Liverpool head coach Arne Slot.

Salah leaves Liverpool as one of the greatest players in the club’s history. During his time on Merseyside, he won seven major trophies and scored 257 goals in 442 appearances, making him Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time.

The 34-year-old had long been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, which appeared to be his most likely destination after he gave a bombshell interview following his omission from Liverpool’s squad against Leeds last season.

Liverpool had previously rejected a reported £150m offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad for Salah, less than three years before his eventual departure.

Salah will now begin a new chapter in Turkey with Trabzonspor, where he is expected to play a leading role as the club competes in the Süper Lig.
