Mumin wins 2015 Cowbell Cycling League
Abdul Razak Abdul Mumin of the River Park Kumasi Cycling Club last Saturday claimed the biggest win of his fledgling career by placing first in the 2015 Cowbell Cycling League.
The 25-year-old bicycle mechanic headed into the final stage of the three-day race - an 80-kilometre criterium at Mantse Agbonaa with a comfortable five minute lead and ended up winning in an overall time of seven hours, 20 minutes and one second.
Mumin's massive lead which he amassed after taking stage two (Accra-Mamfe-Accra) of the road race, meant all he required to retain the prestigious Best by Points yellow jersey was an accident free race which he achieved with ease.
"It's my biggest win so far, last year I could only finish in the top 10 after a crash in the final stages of the race,". Mumin told the Graphic Sports shortly after the race.
"Personally, I think I won the title last Friday on the Accra-Mamfe-Accra Stage where I took most of my points and built up an unassailable lead," he added.
According to Mumin, his next target was to make a huge impact in cycling tours in other African countries, as well as win the gold in the next All Africa Games.
Mumin who also won the red (Best Fighter) and green (Best by Points) jerseys ,was presented with cash prizes totaling GHC 4,000, a gold medal, trophy as well as products and branded cycling gear from event sponsors Cowbell Ghana Limited.
Other notable winners of the 2015 Cowbell Cycling League included 18-year-old Velo Stars rider, Frank Akuffo who won the Best Young Cyclist white jersey as well as the River Park Sunyani Cycling Club who were presented the blue jersey for winning the Best by Time Team blue jersey.
The 2015 Cowbell Cycling League was preceded by a Bicycle Caravan for amateur cyclists at the Accra Sports Stadium which was aimed at promoting safe riding in the Greater Accra Region.
