Nana Yaw Amponsah did not fail at Kotoko – Sarfo Duku

Mr. Samuel Sarfo Duku, former Administrative Manager and Head of Legal Affairs of Kumasi Asante Kotoko believes that the immediate past CEO of the club, Nana Yaw Amponsah did his best while at the club debunking speculations that he [Nana Yaw] failed.

According to the legal practitioner it was the division between the management team and the Board of Directors which led to the dissolution of the 12-member Board rather than Nana Yaw’s failure at the club.

He made the assertion during an interview with Citi Sports on Wednesday, July 26, where he said: “Before we can make a definite conclusion, we would have to analyze the terms of reference vis-a-vis what he was able to achieve. Generally, if you look at the performance of the management team, I don’t think they fared badly at all.”

He continued: “Before he [Nana Yaw Amponsah] came, the expectations of the fans were so high. But I think he has done his part. So I won’t say he is a failure, I would say he did not perform to people’s expectations.”

Nana Yaw Amponsah joined Asante Kotoko in August 2020 as CEO and the Porcupine Warriors won the 2021/2022 league title for the first time in eight years under his administration.

He worked with four different coaches, including Maxwell Konadu, Portuguese Gaffer Mariano Barreto, Prosper Narteh Ogum, who led the team to their 24th premier league title and Seydou Zerbo, who left under bizarre circumstances.

However, about a month ago, the life patron of the club Otumfuor Osei Tutu II dissolved the 12-member Board of Directors led by Dr. Kwame Kyei following the expiration of their term of office.

Meanwhile, the Asante king has appointed a four-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the affairs of the club. They are Nana Apinkra Awua, Kontomponiaferehene and a Chartered Accountant, James Kwesi Appiah, former Black Stars coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, a former coach of the club and Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, Administrative Manager.
