National Cross Country 2021 ends in Sefwi Wiaso
The National Sports Authority (NSA) has organized this year’s national cross-country event for the third time running since 2019 in Sehwi Wiaso, the Western North Region on Saturday, 20th February 2021.
In all, 192 male and female athletes who were drawn from the sixteen administrative regions participated in the 10-kilometre event.
The symbolic “starting gunshot” was done by the Director of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi, with the support of other Physical Education Athletics officials who were drawn from the western region enclave.

The event ended at the Glistering Park at about 9:30 am. Dignitaries who graced the occasion include Nana Yaw Kwarteng, Chief of Anwiam, who represented Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, Omanhene of Sehwi Wiaso Traditional area, Hon. Alex Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for Sehwi Akontombra constituency, Nana Elluo Kweku II, Chief of Bopa, Lt. Col. Anthony Adu Hene (rtd.) among others.
In his keynote address, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi said the government will continue to support talented athletes with policies such as the stimulus package that was made available to sportsmen and sportswomen during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.
He also said that opportunities exist for needy and talented athletes to benefit from state-sponsored academic scholarships.
Nana Yaw Kwarteng II in his remarks also advised the young athletes to take their academic studies seriously while at the same time engaging in sporting activities.
