Nations FC relegated despite final day victory

Nations FC yesterday became the third team to be relegated from the Ghana Premier League despite recording a 1-0 victory over Karela United on the final day of the season at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.

The final whistle was met with disappointment and emotions from players and officials of Nations FC as their efforts proved insufficient to secure survival in the top flight for next season.

The club now joins Eleven Wonders and Hohoe United in relegation to the lower division, bringing a disappointing end to their league campaign.

However, Nations FC still have an opportunity to end the season on a positive note as they prepare to face Dreams FC in the final of the MTN FA Cup.

Knowing that only victory could boost their chances of survival before kick-off, Nations FC began the game brightly and dominated the early exchanges with several attacking incursions into the area of the hosts.

Despite their strong start and attacking intent, the visitors struggled to convert their opportunities in front of goal during the opening stages of the encounter.

Their eventual win, however, was not enough to avoid the drop as results elsewhere failed to favour them, confirming their relegation from the Ghana Premier League after a difficult campaign.
