Ogum promises to build strong Black Starlets team
Newly appointed Black Starlets head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has pledged to build a mentally resilient team capable of competing at the highest level on the continent.
The tactician made the remarks after signing a two-year contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to officially take charge of Ghana’s U-17 side.
“I am grateful to the Ghana Football Association for the trust and stability this contract provides. Our focus is clear — to build a technically sound, tactically disciplined and mentally strong team that can compete at the highest level in Africa.
We are not just preparing for a tournament; we are building a foundation for the future of Ghana football,” Dr Ogum told GFA Communications.
The former Asante Kotoko SC coach, who took over from Coach Frimpong Manso, has already guided the team to qualification for the 2026 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for April.
Appreciation
Dr Ogum expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and outlined a long-term vision focused on structured development and sustained success at the youth level.
Beyond his national team duties, he also serves as the GFA’s Head of Education — a dual role that underscores his strong grounding in player development, technical instruction, and structured growth pathways.
Ogum famously led Asante Kotoko to the Ghana Premier League title in 2022 and previously guided West African Football Academy to an impressive second-place league finish.
His coaching résumé also includes managerial spells with Ebusua Dwarfs and a stint as assistant coach of the Black Galaxies, further strengthening his national team credentials.
The GFA has reaffirmed its commitment to providing the technical and logistical support required to ensure the team’s success, signalling what many believe could be a new era of stability and strategic focus for Ghana’s youth football development.
