In a bold celebration of Ghana’s boxing heritage and the enduring legacy of the country’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, newly launched boxing promotions syndicate, Obra Sports, has announced the maiden edition of the “Osagyefo Fight Night,”.
The boxing extravaganza is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
The event, to be screened live across Africa on Supersports on DSTV, features hot rising boxing star Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey alias Theo Lopez taking on a top five world-ranked opponent, among other mouthwatering bouts set to whet fans’ appetites.
It is designed to commemorate the late Dr Nkrumah’s vision of national pride, unity and youth empowerment while using boxing—one of Ghana’s most successful sporting disciplines—as a platform to inspire the next generation of champions.
According to the organisers, Osagyefo Fight Night is more than just another boxing promotion. It is a celebration of Ghana’s rich sporting history and an opportunity to reconnect the country’s celebrated boxing tradition with the ideals championed by the nation’s founding father.
It blends elite boxing with national heritage and cultural pride.
“Every generation has a responsibility to preserve its legacy and inspire the next,” Obra Sports said in unveiling the event.
“Through Osagyefo Fight Night, we are proud to continue Ghana’s proud boxing tradition while creating opportunities for tomorrow’s champions."
The September 19 date also carries symbolic significance, as it falls close to the annual observance of Founder’s Day, celebrated in honour of Dr Nkrumah’s birthday and immense contribution to Ghana’s independence and development.
Organisers believe the event will serve as a fitting tribute to a leader whose vision extended beyond politics to the empowerment of Ghanaian youth through sport and national identity.
Aside from the world title-chasing Allotey and WBA Africa Super Lightweight champion Jerry Lartey, whose opponents will be officially announced at a mega event next week, fight fans can expect an evening featuring some of Ghana’s brightest boxing talents alongside exciting matchups aimed at entertaining spectators as well as promoting the next generation of stars.
