Quartey elected new GBF president
Boxing administrator and manager Gideon Kwartey Quartey says he will revive the defunct boxing league and also organise a yearly boxing tournament involving amateur boxers across the nation.
Moments after being elected president of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) yesterday at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch in Accra, Mr Quartey invited Eugene Appiah Nyarko, who contested with him for the position to join him to make Ghana boxing a resourceful discipline for the youth.

Quartey polled 27 votes out of 43 valid votes cast, while Mr Appiah had 16 votes.
Another boxing administrator, George Lamptey, was elected as the first vice president when he polled 17 votes ahead of his three other opponents - Alan Sackey who polled 10 votes, Eric Alfred Bannerman who got 14 votes and Benjamin Webster Allotey who had two votes.
Boxing manager Abdul Samadu Mohammed won the second vice-president position with 20 votes ahead of two other candidates who had 12 votes each.
Security Officer Ebenezer Ofori Quaye and Theophilus Edwin Addo were both elected as executive members of the federation. Bernard Quartey went unopposed as treasurer.
The Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) {technical}, Saka Acquaye, swore the newly-elected executives members into office. He admonished them to live above reproach and work towards making amateur boxing a commercially viable discipline which could create employment for the youth and facilitate the development of the country.
