Taekwondo federation set 2020 Olympics agenda
As part of its preparations for the World Junior Championships scheduled for November this year, the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) will organise a series of meetings for guardians and coaches of athletes who placed first and second in the recently organised Mission National Junior Championships. The junior team comprises athletes from the ages of 14 to 17.
The meetings, which would be held at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium at 10 a.m. next Thursday, would also include other practitioners selected by the technical committee who were not included in the list.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the federation, Adnan Lamptey, told the Daily Graphic that the meeting would discuss the consent and support of guardians.
He said the meeting, which will discuss issues including the participation of the national junior taekwondo team in the 2016 World Junior Championships in Canada and the 2018 Junior Olympics in Buenos Aires, is part of the programmes and activities outlined by the GTF towards raising a stronger team for the 2020 Olympic Games to be hosted in Tokyo, Japan.
He said it would also deal with the final selection of the team, as well as residential training and sponsorship.
In a related development, the GTF will hold a meeting with members of its respective committees and club instructors at the Media Centre at the Accra Sports Stadium at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday.
The meeting would discuss terms of reference for committees and modalities for the 2016 “I Love Taekwondo” video contest respectively.
