Yahaya Mohammed joins Libyan club
Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s offensive midfielder, Yahaya Mohammed, has made a shocking move to Libyan top-flight outfit, Ittihad Tripoli.
The dreadlocked player, whose contract was due to expire in May, signed yesterday to join the 16-time Libyan champions after a half season with the Porcupine Warriors.
The strong player caught the eye of the North African side after his impressive display for Ghana’s silver-winning squad at the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and was named as part of the tournament’s top 23 players.
His move to Ittihad Tripoli would come as a big surprise for followers of Kotoko, especially coming on the heels of the club’s shocking elimination from the CAF Champions League in the preliminary round by Liberian side BYC last Sunday.
The 26-year-old player failed to travel with the Kotoko team to Liberia for their continental clash with BYC due to injury. He is reported to have signed a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee.
Despite reportedly attracting potential suitors after his CHAN display, followers of Kotoko had expected Mohammed to stay to boost their efforts at winning honours in domestic competitions.
His exit leaves Kotoko coach, Mas-Ud Dramani with fewer options in attack and must now fall on the striking prowess of Seidu Bancey for the second round of the First Capital Plus Premier League.
