Czech Republic government honours Ghanaian entrepreneur

A Ghanaian entrepreneur, Dr Karl Laryea, has been honoured by the Czech Republic government for his tremendous contribution towards the cordial relationship between Ghana and Czech Republic.

He was also praised for reviving the Kumasi Shoe Factory that was established by the Czech Republic during Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s administration but collapsed in the 1970s.
The citation accompanying the medal also applauded Dr Laryea for his diverse role in promoting trade businesses between Ghanaian companies and Czech Republic organisations, a situation that has attracted many Czech investors to Ghana.

The award was conferred on Dr Laryea by the Czech Republic Ambassador to Ghana, Mrs Margita Fuchsova, on behalf of her government during a ceremony to commemorate National Day of Czech Republic in Accra.

According to Mrs Fuchsova, Dr Laryea had, over the past years, served as a “true business ambassador of Czech Republic in various industries.”

A delegation from the government of Ghana, led by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Nii Osah Mills, attended the three-hour event, which showcased some Czech Republic cultural activities.

Smooth relationship

In his remarks, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources said over the past years, Ghana and Czech Republic had enjoyed long-standing friendship and fruitful relationship.

He said bilateral cooperation between the two countries ranged from political, economic to cultural exchanges and cooperation in the field of education.

Ghana, the minister added, had also benefited from equipment that had helped to boost rice production in the country.

He, therefore, commended the Czech Republic for its commitment to support Ghana attain its development goals, especially in the area of agriculture and education.

Nii Mills also thanked the ambassador for the honour conferred on a Ghanaian and urged more local businesses to take advantage of the relationship between the two countries to enhance their operations.
