Dr. Gillian Hammah wins Global Women in Marketing AI for Impact Award

Ghanaian marketing executive and technology advocate Dr Gillian Hammah has been named winner of the 2025 Women in Marketing AI for Impact Award, gaining global recognition for her work in promoting ethical and inclusive use of artificial intelligence across Africa.

Dr Hammah, who is Chief Marketing Officer at Aya Data and founder of GradePoint AI, received the award for championing responsible AI practices while developing practical AI-driven solutions that address structural challenges in African education.

The Women in Marketing AI for Impact Award recognises leaders who apply artificial intelligence in ways that promote equity, accessibility and social good. Judges said Dr Hammah stood out for her ability to connect advanced technology with real-world impact, particularly within underserved communities.

Central to her recognition was the development of GradePoint AI, an AI-powered grading assistance tool designed for universities. The platform enables lecturers to provide timely and personalised feedback to students at scale, addressing longstanding challenges in institutions where large class sizes and limited resources often delay assessment feedback for weeks or even an entire semester.

In many public universities across Africa, such delays have been cited as a major factor undermining effective learning and student development. GradePoint AI aims to reduce that gap, allowing under resourced institutions to offer feedback standards comparable to those in elite private universities.

Beyond product development, Dr Hammah has become a leading voice in AI literacy and public education. Through her weekly “Embracing AI” column in the Business and Financial Times, as well as podcast appearances and speaking engagements, she has reached thousands of professionals and students, breaking down complex AI concepts for business leaders and educators.

Her advocacy has focused on addressing widespread anxiety about artificial intelligence replacing human labour. According to her, access to AI tools alone is insufficient without deeper understanding of how they work and how they can be applied responsibly to enhance human capacity rather than displace it.

Judges of the Women in Marketing Awards described her as “a changemaker who brings AI to life for people not often invited to the conversation,” adding that her work “transforms fear into curiosity and access into empowerment.”

With close to three decades of marketing experience spanning Ghana and Canada, Dr Hammah has built a career that blends strategic marketing leadership with technology driven social impact. Her work continues to position Ghana as an emerging contributor to global conversations on ethical artificial intelligence and inclusive innovation.
