Four Graphic Business journalists shortlisted for IFEJ awards

Four journalists with the Graphic Business, the business newspaper of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), have been shortlisted for the 2017 edition of the annual business and financial journalism awards by the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ).

The four are part of the 11 financial journalists from both private and public media houses who have been shortlisted for the awards slated for Friday, January 26, 2018.

They are Maxwell Akalaare Adombila, Jessica Acheampong, Emmanuel Bruce and Maclean Kwofi.

The other shortlisted journalists are Felix Dela Klutse of Business Day; Kwabena Adu Koranteng of the New Crusading Guide and Fred Sarpong of the Daily Express.

The rest are Rebekah Awuah of GBC 24; Francisca Dickson Arhin of EIB; Theophilus Kwasi Agyei Anim, a freelance broadcast journalist, and Richard Annerquaye Abbey of the Business and Financial Times.

A release issued by IFEJ and signed by its President, Mr Rayborn Bulley, said the annual awards, which is known as Flamingo Awards, was instituted to reward business and financial journalists and editors for their good and high quality coverage in the area of business and finance.

Twenty-six entries were received from the various newspapers while five audio visual entries were received from the electronic media. Entries were made in all the nine categories Finance, Business/Manufacturing, News Story, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Extractives, Agribusiness, Tourism Development, Local Economy and  Business of Health Feature.

The five-member jury, under the chairmanship of Mr Daniel Otabil Koomson, a veteran broadcast journalist, settled on the shortlisted as potential award winners across the various categories.

The theme for the awards is: “Embracing financial inclusion and innovations for growth and development,” and has the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison, as the guest speaker.

The event, which will take place at the WEB Dubois Centre at Cantonments, will be chaired by Dr Kwame-Amoah Baah-Nuakoh.

The IFEJ was formed in 1990 to help develop the skills of journalists in business and financial reporting.

One of the objectives of the institute is to advance the study, development and application of improved financial and economic communication methods through appropriate hands-on approaches and platforms. — GB
