Maiden Ghana Industry CEO Awards scheduled for Nov 3
Nominations for the maiden Ghana Industry Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Awards 2018 have opened for potential winners.
A release issued in Accra by the organisers, The Business Executive Limited, said nominations which opened on Tuesday, September 4, would run until Tuesday, September 18, 2018. The event is scheduled for November 23 in Accra.
It said “the awards, which will subsequently be conferred annually, were aimed at identifying and publicly recognising the most outstanding CEOs across 19 delineated sectors of the economy, with a view to encouraging improved corporate governance and institutional leadership standards in the country”.
“Overall winners, together with the first and second runners-up in each sector, will be honoured at a red carpet buffet dinner awards ceremony.
“In management, the concept of reward occupies an important position in the mix of incentives employed to achieve progressively improving performance of employees. The same result is also consistent when applied to leadership. It is from this philosophical background that we have conceived the idea of this Ghana Industry CEO Awards,” the release quoted the CEO of The Business Executive Limited, Madam Paulette Kporo, as saying.
She explained that: “The best way to appreciate this award concept is simply to think of it as a reward system - a public reward system - to recognise and reward corporate leadership in an uncommon way.”
More on nominations
The release said, “Nominations will be by the general public – both self-nominations and third party nominations are allowed – which will be the first step in a thorough and painstaking process through which the eventual winners will be determined.”
It said after the closure of nominations, a dedicated team of research consultants would conduct due diligence and verify the claims made in the nominations, and from that would derive a shortlist of nominees who would subsequently be voted for by the general public in a process from October 5 to October 19.
The release said AA&K Services, an indigenous auditing and management consultancy firm, rated “A” by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), would serve as voting validators and have the mandate to supervise and ensure the integrity of the entire voting process.
The release said nominations could be made through a dedicated website established by organisers. The website, it said, set out criteria that would be considered in assessing nominations received. “These include evidence of outstanding professional and leadership conduct by nominees, level of expertise, commitment to good corporate governance and to fiscal and corporate social responsibility and actual accomplishments, both professional and managerial,” it added.
Nominees will be drawn from CEOs of both privately owned and public enterprises – but not government bureaucratic institutions and non-profit social and religious institutions. Furthermore, they should be CEOs of enterprises that are members of the Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ghana Club 100 or listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
