Out of this number, 10 received scholarships to pursue first degree programs while the others were selected for Masters degree programs.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, teaching materials lodging and allowances for the beneficiaries and will cater for courses in English, Mathematics and Science to be taken at the University of Education and the Cape Coast University.

The choice of these courses is in line with the MTN Ghana Foundation’s quest to build the "capacity of teachers in public schools" to be well equipped in imparting vital knowledge to their students.

A total of 311 entries were received from across the country after the program was launched a couple of months ago.

The applications were subjected to rigorous shortlisting and series of interviews with a panel, chaired by Emerita Prof. Elisabeth Ardayfio- Schandorf.

In an address at the ceremony to present confirmation letters to the beneficiaries on Wednesday in Accra, MTN Ghana CEO, Ebenezer Twum-Asante said the scholarship scheme recognizes the importance of education to national development.

Mrs Cynthia Lumor, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN urged more women to apply for the scholarships next year, noting that even though there was a marginal increase in the number of female applications received, many more should take advantage of the scheme.
