UKGCC, AmCham Ghana unite business leaders for charity-driven International Jazz Day event

The UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce and American Chamber of Commerce-Ghana have partnered to commemorate International Jazz Day with a charity-focused networking event aimed at supporting neonatal healthcare at the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital.

The event, dubbed “Jazz & Jive”, brought together corporate executives, diplomats and members of the business community at Four Points by Sheraton Accra Hotel for an evening of live jazz music, networking and fundraising.

Organisers said the initiative was designed not only to celebrate jazz as a global cultural expression, but also to strengthen collaboration among businesses while contributing to an important social cause.

Executive Secretary of the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Adjoba Kyiamah, said the event built on the success of previous jazz-themed engagements organised by the chamber.

“This edition of our International Jazz Day commemoration builds on the success of previous jazz-themed events, and combines the timeless appeal of jazz with purposeful giving in support of the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital,” she stated.

She explained that proceeds from the fundraiser would go towards the procurement of essential neonatal equipment to support newborn care at the hospital, while encouraging continued support from corporate institutions and individuals.

Chief Executive Officer of AmCham Ghana, Doris Kafui Afanyedey, said the collaboration between the two chambers reflected the strong diplomatic and commercial ties that Ghana shares with both the United Kingdom and the United States.

According to her, the partnership also demonstrated the importance of cooperation within the business community in addressing social challenges.

“It was therefore inevitable that the two chambers of commerce would find common cause that demonstrates in practice what we advocate in principle, which is collaboration to produce better outcomes more than competition,” she said.

The organisers indicated that beyond entertainment and networking, the event highlighted how private sector institutions could leverage culture and strategic partnerships to drive social impact and community development.

They added that the programme also aligned with the broader objective of promoting sustainable business growth alongside corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Several corporate organisations, including Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, Axis Pensions Trust and Forms Capital, supported the initiative together with the host venue, helping to drive the success of the fundraising event.

International Jazz Day is celebrated annually around the world to recognise jazz music as a unifying force that promotes peace, intercultural dialogue and cooperation among communities and nations.
