Most GH rappers don’t make sense - Dr Ray

Music producer Nana Yaw Nkrumah popularly known as Dr Ray has said rap tracks should make sense and rappers shouldn’t make music just for competition's sake.

According to Dr Ray, a lot of rap songs produced today just don’t make sense.

“I don’t want to mention names but most rappers in Ghana do not make sense with their rap and I do not respect them.

“Mind you there, there are international record labels out there looking for some serious talented rappers but with our kind of rap, I wonder if we will make it out there,” he told Graphic Showbiz.

Dr Ray also advised Ghanaian rappers to rap in English if they want to get international recognition.

"No disrespect to any Twi rapper but rapping in English puts us out there. Trust me, there are some investors waiting to grab some serious talents from Africa and any rapper who is consistent with his work will be noticed one day.

“I salute the likes of M.anifest, Lyrical Joe and a few others who are rapping in English,” he said.

Dr Ray, who worked on Kofi Kinaata’s Oh Azaay, Atom’s Yewo Krom, Guru’s Street Popping and Kwaw Kese’s I Love You among others urged musicians to try and pay for their studio fees and stop giving excuses.

Dr Ray has been in the industry for seven years and has received nominations in award schemes such as the 2016 Ghana Music Awards UK (Producer of the Year), 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (Producer of the Year) and Ghana-Naija Showbiz Awards (Producer of the Year).
