When it comes to stage shows Gospel artistes perform better — Perpetual Didier

Gospel artiste, Perpetual Didier, has accused event organisers for side-lining gospel artistes from major shows because of the fear that they might outshine the hiplife stars and other secular musicians who are often the headline acts of such shows.

She claims gospel artistes are better performers on stage and have often outshone secular musicians whenever the find themselves on one platform, with the Ghana Music Awards as a case in point where gospel musicians such as Sonnie Badu, Nacee and O.J. have stolen the show.

“I want to base my argument on previous Ghana Music Awards nights. The likes of Nacee, Sonnie Badu, O. J have always done better than the top hiplife musicians on the bill. I believe event organisers do not want the gospel musicians to disgrace the secular musician that is why we are always side-lined,” she told Showbiz in an interview on Friday.

Perpetual, who first hit the limelight in 2010 when she released her Nea Wo A Y3 So also blames their predicament on the lack of a single voice or a united front by gospel artistes to champion their cause saying, “unlike secular musicians who have shown a united front and as a result are compelling event organisers to act in their best interest, gospel musicians are not united. A secular musician for instance, can lobby strongly for a colleague to perform alongside him at a show but such solidarity acts do not exist on the gospel front”.

She also believes every big event in the country should have a gospel musician as the opening act because God comes first before any other thing.

  “I think its about time event organisers feature gospel musicians on major shows not necessarily a gospel show. Gospel artistes such as Gifty Osei, Tagoe Sisters, Daughters of Glories Jesus or myself can open an event before our colleague hiplife or highlife artistes mount the stage to perform”, she added .

Perpetual, who is currently promoting her 10 track album, Wontumi Nka Me Nnhye which has songs such as All Have Sinned, Yesu Dɔ, Wo Yiedie, Mentua Hwee  and Agyenkwa Yesu  pleaded with MUSIGA and event organisers  to give  all  artistes a level paying ground to operate on.
