Brass takes centre stage at Alliance Française
THE Alliance Française in Accra was transformed into a vibrant hub of rhythm and live instrumentation over the weekend as Roverman Productions and GGBrass Band staged the maiden edition of the Feel The Brass concert recently.
The event brought together lovers of live music and brass culture, celebrating Ghana’s growing brass band movement.
Known over the years for producing some of Ghana’s most celebrated theatre productions, Roverman Productions made a bold musical statement with the concert, signalling its intention to further promote alternative live music experiences in the country.
From the moment GGBrass Band mounted the stage, the atmosphere at Alliance Française came alive with electrifying performances and energetic renditions of hit songs from music legends such as Michael Jackson, Osibisa and George Jahraa.
The excitement heightened when the band surprised patrons with guest performances from celebrated acts including Tagoe Sisters, Yung Pabi, Teena Twumasi and Susan Augustt.
The concert also featured performances by The Band Fra, Ghana Police Band, Elite Groovers, Grooveknot Band and Damfo Brass Band, all of whom contributed to the vibrant showcase of Ghana’s evolving brass music culture.
MC Kabutey My MC hosted the event, while DJ Wuuushman kept the energy levels high between performances.
Media Relations Officer at Roverman Productions, Nii Saki Sackey, explained that although the production house is widely known for theatre, music has always been an essential part of its productions.
According to him, GGBrass had gradually become the heartbeat of many Roverman productions, making it necessary to create a bigger platform dedicated entirely to brass music.
Over the years, brass band culture in Ghana has evolved beyond ceremonial and institutional settings into mainstream entertainment, with younger audiences increasingly embracing live instrumentation and alternative sounds.
Organisers believe Feel The Brass will further spotlight brass music and help establish a stronger live music culture in Ghana.
“Brass music in Ghana is having a moment and we are proud to be part of the movement driving it forward. We want this concert to become a major platform for live music culture in Ghana,” Nii Saki Sackey added.
