Dzifa Gomashie: Tourism Minister inaugurates National Theatre Board

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has inaugurated a newly constituted board for the National Theatre with a call to spearhead the revival of the institution’s operations and cultural programming.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister emphasised the need for collaboration between the board and the Executive Director of the National Theatre, Henry Herbert Malm, to breathe new life into one of Ghana’s most vital cultural assets.

She described the initiative as a renewed effort by the Ministry to reposition the theatre as a hub for national creativity and artistic excellence.

“I am grateful to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence he has placed in this team. I believe strongly that the calibre and commitment of the members will chart a vibrant and impactful course for the National Theatre,” the Minister stated.

She urged the board to support the vision and objectives of the Executive Director, adding that teamwork would be essential in achieving lasting transformation in the theatre’s public engagement and artistic output.

The board is chaired by cultural expert Korkor Amarteifio and includes key figures from Ghana’s creative and academic circles. Members include Henry Herbert Malm, Executive Director of the National Theatre; Dr. Sylvanus Korshie Kuwor, Dean of the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana; Professor Samuel Aniegye Ntewusu, Director of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana; legal practitioner Esther Yayra Attipoe, Esq.; dancer and choreographer Nii-Tete Yartey; Rev. Hedwig Naa Tolloo Quist; cultural advocate Jordan Kofi Norshie; and Aku Dzifa Florence Glikpoe.

Officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, led by Chief Director Joseph Kwasi Amoah, were also present at the ceremony, which marked a milestone in the government’s strategy to revitalise Ghana’s cultural infrastructure and strengthen national identity through the arts.
