
I endorse full scale investigations -Rex Omar on helicopter crash claiming eight lives
Renowned Highlife artiste and Presidential Staffer for Black Stars Experience, Rex Omar has endorsed full-scale investigation into the helicopter crash which claimed eight lives including two Cabinet Ministers at the Adansi Area of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6.
Speaking at the laying of flowers and lighting of candles at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Jubilee House earlier on Thursday, August 7, the Abiba hit-maker expressed condolences to the family of the eight victims.
“They were close allies and for Dr Omane Boamah, we spoke three days ago and even scheduled a meeting for today but this is the outcome today.
“We should all be strong and continue the good work he started. This is a very very painful incident and that is why I endorse full investigations into it. This has never happened to Ghana so I support the call,” he said.
According to Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, the government has formed a task force to investigate the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two senior public officials and six others on Wednesday. (Read Presidency sets up task force to investigate helicopter crash)
She made this known in a radio interview with Joy FM early on today and for Rex Omar, a thorough investigation is necessary to determine the cause of the crash and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The government equally announced a three-day line-up of activities from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 9, 2025, which started with the laying of flowers and lighting of candles at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Jubilee House today. A statement from the Presidency Communications Directorate described the period as a time for national reflection and unity. It said the mourning would give Ghanaians the chance to honour the memory of those lost and express solidarity with the bereaved families. The eight victims who died in the crash are Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and Mr Samuel Sarpong, National Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress(NDC).
The others are Mr Samuel Aboagye, the 2024 NDC Parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, pilot; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, co-pilot and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah, crew member.
