She is actually referred to as the ‘Queen of Neo-Soul.’

More than 40 other acts including the veteran South African trombonist, JonasGwangwa and American pianist and composer, Randy Weston, will also perform at the festival which is ranked as one of the best jazz meetings in the world.

The various acts will perform simultaneously on multiple stages.

The Cape Town Jazz Festival started in 2000 as part of the North Sea Jazz Festival. From 2005, however, the festival was renamed the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

The event has since grown. Attendance has risen from 14, 000 in 2000 to 24,000 in 2013.

There are other activities attendees can benefit from as there are also musical and training workshops offered at the festival.

Organisers say  that is a clear demonstration of the festival’s  commitment to developing the music industry as well as the community.

Earth Wind and Fire, The Flames and George Benson are some of the great performers that have graced past jazz festivals in Cape Town.
