Great women vocalists to be celebrated
There will be a concert to celebrate the music of some female vocal greats such as Roberta Flack, Minnie Ripperton, Randy Crawford, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Donna Summer and Chaka Khan, tomorrow, October 3 at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill in Accra.
The 9.00pm programme is under the Great Women Vocalists Series and will parade Sandra Huson, Meche Korrect, Brenda Joyce and Ofie Kodjoe to do justice to the songs on the night. They will all be backed by the D3 Project band.
The women being celebrated were extremely influential at the peak of their careers and they recorded classics which are still loved till now.
Some of Robeta Flack’s greatest pieces were Killing Me Softly, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and The Closer I Get To You. Many discerning music lovers still remember Donna Summer for songs like Hot Stuff, I Feel Love and Love to Love You Baby.
For Minnie Riperton, her great tracks included Loving You, Inside My Love and Les Fluer while Chaka Khan cannot ever be forgotten for sweet pieces like I Feel For You, I’m Every Woman and My Funny Valentine.
“Those phenomenal women singers and they continue to inspire new generations of vocalists all the time. I believe it is right to look back and embrace all the wonderful things they did for the world,” a spokesperson for +233 Jazz Bar and Grill said.
The first programme in the Great Women Vocalists Series was devoted to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Nancy Wilson and Nina Simone.
