Although the comedian openly attacked Ms Nelson and called on his colleagues in the creative industry who were advocating for the vigil, to stop whining about the power crisis since that would do nothing to alleviate the situation, he told the Graphic Showbiz on Monday that he would not hesitate to approach the actress the next time they meet.

This is because he did not believe his relationship with the actress had been strained because of their opposing views on the vigil, including a disparaging comment he posted on Twitter and Instagram after Yvonne Nelson questioned his opposition to the campaign.

“I have always maintained that Yvonne Nelson is one of the people I greatly admire in our entertainment industry and despite our opposing views, nothing has changed between us. If I happen to meet her anywhere, I will definitely approach her for a chat because we are still good friends,” said the Laugh-a-Minute comedian.

David Oscar’s unannounced appearance at the Legon Total filling station last Saturday to participate in the #DumsorMustStop vigil took many protestors by surprise because of his open criticism of the campaign.

Commenting on why he attended the vigil although he had criticised it, the comedian explained that his comments on social media were misinterpreted by the public.

“I never said I was against the dumsor vigil because as a Ghanaian, I am equally affected by the power crisis and not to have attended would have been hypocritical.

“ What my comments sought to do was draw attention to the foul language and insults people were employing on social media to denigrate the President.  The power crisis did not start with this current government and that is something we should have been mindful of,” he said.

Oscar revealed that apart from a few people who made disparaging remarks at him when he arrived at the venue, the overwhelming reaction from the crowd was positive.

“I never said I was not going to turn up for the vigil and so it should not have come as a surprise that I turned up. The fact that I disagree with you on a particular subject does not mean we have to be enemies.

“ I can express my opinion without having to worry about being subjected to abuse. My presence at the vigil is a testament to Ghana’s democracy because it proves we are tolerant of each other’s divergent views, this would not have been possible in certain countries,” he added.

He informed Showbiz besides comedy, he had been trying his hands at music and had a single already available online.

“My first single is titled Blow and I urge all my fans to give it a listen on YouTube and other social media sites,” said.
