It was in 1984 that Ghanaian singer, composer and drummer, Chris Kyere and his German-born bassist wife,  Micha, formed the Biibiba band in Germany.

They toured Ghana several times, allowing some Ghanaian musicians the opportunity to join the group  on tour to several parts of Europe.

Reggae acts scheduled to feature in support of Biibiba include Na U, Joe Wizzy, Original Ras Scotty, Osagyefo, Jah Amber, Appiah Levi, Chupa, Roots Family, Abu Rasta, Ras Sam and Chizzy Wailer.

“Biibiba is a big empire. Many artistes have passed through. Some of them, Dixkson and Johnny Matata have flown in from Europe and Kwame Bediako from the United States, to be part of the occasion,” Kyere said.

Biibiba has been seriously rehearsing in a house at Mamprobi Banana Inn in Accra and Kyere says everyone must come to the big anniversary party  to hear some good conscious music.

According to Kyere, Biibiba has in the past featured on shows alongside big acts like Wailers, Mutabaruka, Gregory Isaacs and Black Uhuru.

The band has also backed Ghanaian artistes like Kojo Antwi, Paapa Yankson and Daddy Lumba  on tour in Germany.

“People know us for the reggae we play but we are versatile. We are also excellent at  highlife, soukous, Afro-beat and other styles, depending on the occasion.”

Biibiba has five albums to its credit and will play songs from all the collections at the 31st anniversary  show which kicks off at 8.00pm.
