It was a dangerous exercise he decided to embark on but Ben the Bolt driver pushed on with undiminished vim, eventually helping to save a potentially dreadful situation and revealing the thrill of genuine selflessness.
Thanks to that finely-weaved plot, impressive performances and generally good craftmanship from writer/director Kwame Boadi and his AI Media team, film fans would be able to see ‘Hero’s Ride: Baby Thief’ when it premieres on December 12 at the Accra Mall and Weija Silverbird Cinemas.
‘Hero’s Ride: Baby Thief’ could be categorized as a crime thriller because the protagonist battles crookedness in the city. Ben the driver is determined not to look away when he chances upon a criminal syndicate. In a situation where many would ignore and drive on, he stops to help. He aligns with the police to solve problems, showing that heroism is simply about the courage to act.
The film’s cast includes Ben Affat, Gloria Sarfo, Andrew Adote Tandoh, Nikki Samonas and Bukom Banku. Collectively, they bring an entertaining and humorous edge to the movie.
Despite that tinge of lightness sprinkled across the film, it is clear writer/director Kwame Boadi firmly believes in holding up socially relevant matters in his work. He stresses what ordinary folks could contribute to help maintain safety and orderliness in their communities.
Boadi and his AI Media folks’ previous screen credits include the ‘Sun City’ television series, ‘Gold Coast’ feature film and the ‘Omo Ghana: Man For Chop’ docu-drama. The film director sees this latest product as a brave new era for Ghanaian storytelling as the narrative is anchored by the Akoben, a traditional Adinkra symbol representing a war horn.
“The film uses this symbol to project a philosophy of vigilance and readiness to serve. It represents a modern clarion call for responsible citizenship, encouraging audiences to be alert to injustice in their communities just as Ben remains watchful on the streets of Accra,” says Boadi.
The film’s Technical Producer, Oliver Safo, explains that ‘Hero’s Ride: Baby Thief’ tactfully integrates tradition and futurism as it brings on board new and experimental ideas to express the growth of the protagonist.
Release of a dedicated soundtrack album and music video, featuring Afrobeats rhythms designed to serve as a sonic call to action for the youth, will accompany the film’s premiere.
‘Hero’s Ride: Baby Thief’ is the product of a collaboration between AI Media and Petrosol Platinum Energy.
