Yaa Pono calls out Kennedy Agyapong for unauthorized use of his song in campaign

Ghanaian rapper Yaa Pono has raised concerns about the use of his popular track 'Obia Wone Master' during a political campaign led by an aspirant in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race, Kennedy Agyapong, without obtaining his prior consent.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Yaa Pono expressed his dissatisfaction, stating, "Why my song being used for campaign without my notice, @honkenagy, this is not cool for me." Accompanying this message was a video capturing the moment when Kennedy and his campaign team energetically danced to the beats of 'Obia Wone Master.'

The tweet sparked a lively debate on social media. Some contended that since Yaa Pono mentioned Kennedy Agyapong in the song, its use in the campaign was justified.

Conversely, others supported the rapper’s position, underscoring the importance of seeking permission before deploying copyrighted material for political ends.

In the midst of these online discussions, some users advised Yaa Pono to explore legal options if he believes his rights have been infringed upon.

Released in 2018, Yaa Pono's 'Obia Wone Master,' featuring Stonebwoy, earned the accolade of Best Hip-Life Song of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) in 2019.
