Yaw Dhope: Grammy win or not, GH acts deserve praises

RAPPER Yaw Dhope says it is very unfortunate the talent and creativity of Ghanaian artistes have been underrated just because they have not been lucky to secure a Grammy win.

Thus the current account shouldn’t be encouraged since it is a damper and “kills” the efforts of hardworking artistes.

According to Yaw Dhope, an old student of Abuakwa State College (ABUSCO,) “I have been following discussions on the 2024 Grammys which has no Ghanaian artiste on its nomination list. That’s not the end of the world.

“While I think we should be praising the efforts of our artistes who submitted their works for consideration, we are rather trolling them.

“It’s as if Stonebwoy committed a crime filing for Grammys nominations and subsequently not earning a spot when the list came out last week. As a people, it should be a priority to encourage our people to walk such paths than make fun of them when they fail at their attempts.

“I’m an artiste and what is happening is very discouraging and I agree with the likes of Camidoh and Medikal that our time will come. Yes, winning Grammys and getting global recognition on such reputable platforms are commendable but are we rubbishing all the hard work because of no Grammys win?’ he questioned.

In the few years since he emerged as a professional artiste, Yaw Dhope has come out with a pretty good list of songs which include Light and Darkness, Make Money, Ladance and Riches and Envy.

Others are Flow Unlocked, Devil Knock, Sorry For Left, Close To The Ground, One way Or The Other, Differences, Vis-a-Vis, Bad Mind Gee and Kwashieman to Labadi.

He also mentioned that it's becoming the norm in recent times for flourishing young artistes to be compared to their ‘seniors” in the game which he finds very disrespectful.

The rapper, who recorded a major milestone in his career when he successfully held his maiden concert in 2022 told Graphic Showbiz the practice shouldn’t be encouraged too.

“I’ve always said that Ghanaians easily retire musicians but that shouldn’t be encouraged. There’s nothing like a retired musician so both the old and young should be appreciated for their respective contributions,” he added.
