Ghanaians rank high among US visa overstayers
Ghana has emerged as one of the African countries with high visa overstay rates in the United States, according to the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Fiscal Year 2023 Entry/Exit Overstay Report.
Ghanaian travellers admitted for business or pleasure on B1/B2 visas recorded a 7.50 percent total overstay rate, with 1,910 total overstays out of 25,454 expected departures. Of these, 1,850 were in-country overstays, reflecting a 7.27 percent in-country overstay rate.

Otto Addo points to "hatred" as Black Stars miss out on AFCON 2025
Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has suggested that external hostility toward him and the national team contributed to their dismal performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars failed to qualify for the tournament following a 1-1 draw with Angola, which left them at the bottom of Group F.

7.2 million children targeted in second polio vaccination exercise
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is expected to vaccinate 7.2 million children under five years in the second round of the National Polio Vaccination Campaign scheduled to start from November 21 to 24, 2024.
Public health nurses would administer two doses of the oral polio vaccines (OPVs) to the children.

Sign onto Africa Responsible Mineral Sourcing Initiative - Mineral-rich African countries urged
African countries with mineral resources have been urged to sign onto the Africa Responsible Mineral Sourcing Initiative to promote responsible and sustainable mining practices on the continent.
In spite of the wide spread of mineral resources across Africa, only 16 countries have signed onto the initiative.
They include Uganda, Nigeria, Chad and South Sudan. Conspicuously missing is Ghana, currently Africa's largest gold exporter.

Black Stars 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign ends in heartbreak
Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign ended in disappointment as the Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18, 2024.
The loss condemned Ghana to the bottom of Group F with just three points, extending their winless run in the qualifiers to six games, while Angola and Sudan booked a ticket to the next AFCON slated for Morocco.
Niger opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Ousseini Badamassi rose above the Ghanaian defence to head home a corner kick.

Investigate alleged expired rice distribution to senior high schools - NDC MPs to govt
Some members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus, led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the member for the North Tongu constituency have called on the President to setup a commission of inquiry to investigate the distribution of alleged contaminated rice to senior high schools in December 2023.
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who first made the allegation last week, said the rice numbering over 22,000 pieces of the 50 kg bags were expired and contaminated.
He said the bags of rice were repackaged and distributed to senior high schools across the country by the National Buffer Stock Company.
He alleged that the rice, imported from India, expired on December 20, 2023 but they were repackaged into white 50kg polypropylene bags as Made-in-Ghana rice with the inscription “CEDAO ECOWAS Regional Food Security Reserve.”

In what appears to suggest voters' focus on bread and butter issues, majority of respondents in a Daily Graphic poll have indicated that their choices in the December 7 elections will be based on the manifestos of the political parties.
