1,250 children get solar lamps
The beneficiary schoolchildren were from Dokyikrom, Yawusukrom, Ntotroso, OLA and the Ntotroso resettlement communities,
Mr Paul Sowley, the General Manager of Environment and Social Responsibility of NGGL, explained at the presentation ceremony at Dokyikrom that the gesture was in line with the value of developing the people, especially children.
He also indicated that apart from schoolchildren living in areas not connected to the national electricity grid benefiting from the lamps, those who were currently enjoying electricity could use them to learn at night when there were power outages.
Mr Sowley expressed the hope that the supply of the lamps would help improve the educational standard of students/pupils in the beneficiary schools.
The Chief of Dokyikrom, Nana Kyei Bonsu, thanked the management of Newmont for the kind gesture and advised the beneficiaries to use the lamps to improve their academic performance.
“Stay at home in the nights to study because from now on you don’t have any excuse to loiter about”, he told the children.
