Samuel Gu, outstanding student of AUGUSCO

“You should not allow your circumstances in life to determine how far you can go,” were the words of Master Samuel Gu, a third-year Business student of the St Augustine’s College in Cape Coast in the Central Region who collected six awards at the school’s Speech and Prizing-giving Day this year.

Master Gu said when he entered the St Augustine’s College in September 2011, he had lost his father only two weeks earlier and he was distraught with grief, but he did not let that affect his optimism and determination to excel.

He said he did his best so: “one day I can have my signature on the Ghana Cedi note, as my dream is to become the Governor of the Bank of Ghana.”

Master Gu was adjudged the best student in  Economics, Business Management, Integrated Science, Physical Education  and Financial Accounting as well as the Overall Best Student.

He noted that his awards would not only put smiles on his mother’s face but would also compensate for the investments she had made into his education.

Born on October 22, 1995, Master Gu hails from Peki in the Volta Region and had his basic education at the Oxford Preparatory School at Komenda (in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) municipality of the Central Region).

Master Gu dedicated his awards to God, for His mercies and also thanked Caleb Turpih-Quaye, his friend, for his assistance.

Master Gu says he didn’t make it on a silver platter but burnt the midnight oil and spent a lot of time with his books.

He encouraged students to be committed to their books so as to perform brilliantly.
