Ghana and Australia fashion celebrated at 2024 Global Fashion Week
The successful marriage of the thriving Ghanaian textile industry and the historical yet ever-evolving fashion industry of Australia was the focus of celebrations at the 2024 Global Fashion Week held on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
On a night of glitz and glamour, the incredible creative prowess of budding Ghanaian fashion designers was displayed to the world by talented models who not only rocked beautiful outfits but also owned those outfits and brought out the messages that inspired the creative pieces.

While fashion was the focus of the night, there were also avenues for the celebration of Ghanaian photography and music.
Added to the excitement of the event was an exhibition of the amazing works of Ghanaian photographer, Sean Okai and the tasting of premium Australian wine.
Present at the event held at the Marriott Hotel in Accra were high-ranking officials of the Australian High Commission, who have been the headline partners for the second successive year.
There were also investors and creative minds from Australia whose interests were definitely piqued by the richness of the designs displayed on the night.
In a brief speech delivered at the event, Emelia Edwards, the Second Secretary of the Australian High Commission in Ghana, disclosed that her outfit opted to partner with the event for the second time due to their commitment to the economic empowerment of women and Ghanaian creatives.
She explained that Australia’s historically rich fashion industry and Ghana’s famed textile industry make for a successful collaboration that could dominate the world with the right investment.

She noted that the commission has been consistent with its support for Ghanaian women and that the fashion industry presents another avenue for the commission to empower Ghanaian women.
She intimated that the Australian High Commission has been collaborating with women in the industry to support their craft and provide opportunities for them to grow.
