A total of 150 teenage mothers from the Northern Region have successfully graduated from a vocational skills training programme under Phase II of the Skills for Future Project.

This initiative, led by the Girls Advocacy Network and supported by the KGL Foundation, provided the participants with six months of intensive training in various fields, including hairdressing, makeup, beaded product making, and soap making.

The beneficiaries were selected from the Tamale metropolis, Sagnarigu Municipal, and Tolon district, all in the Northern Region.

The Skills for Future Project is part of a larger effort to create sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable groups, promoting economic independence, and building a brighter future for teenage mothers in Ghana.

The graduation ceremony was attended by the Chief of Gumanayili and his elders, who praised the initiative for equipping the teenage mothers with valuable skills and starter toolkits to help them begin their entrepreneurial journeys.

The Chief Kakpag’yili Gumanaa Fusheini emphasised the programme’s significance in empowering young women economically.

"This initiative will enable them to earn an income and support their families," he said.

The Executive Director of the Girls Advocacy Network, Mr Kamal Deen Habib, highlighted the broader impact of the project, which has provided not only skills but also hope and resilience to the beneficiaries.

"By offering practical solutions to vulnerable groups, we can create lasting change," he stated.

He added that as the newly trained entrepreneurs step into the business world, their determination and community support will pave the way for economic and social transformation.

Many of the participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to develop new skills and improve their lives.

“Thank you for giving us this chance to learn and earn. We promise to use the toolkits responsibly and work hard to better our lives," said Ms. Rafia, one of the beneficiaries.
