Abutia Kloe EP Church to construct nursing college to mark 125th anniversary

The Evangelical Presbyterian(EP) Church at Abutia Kloe in the Ho West district of the Volta Region has celebrated its 125th anniversary of the advent of Christianity to the community with a fund raising for the establishment of an EP College of Nursing.

In all, GhȻ84,137 was realized out of the targeted GhȻ100,000 at the church durbar for work to start on the construction of the project.

Sod cutting for EP College of Nursing

The sod was cut to signify the beginning of construction work. The moderator of the general assembly of the church, Right Reverend Dr Seth Senyo Agidi performed the sod cutting ceremony.

In his sermon, Dr Agidi bemoaned the rising trend in seeking instant results in human endeavor and that it had led to a breakdown in civility, cheating and illicit acquisition of material wealth and intolerable aggression for possession.

He said the desire for worldly living had prompted a high level of corruption, drug abuse and other social cankers among people and cautioned church members be on high alert in order not be endangered by deceit that had become the order of the day.

Maturity during next elections

In an address, the Minister of Transport, Ms Dzifa Attivor advised the people to exercise restraint during the general elections next year and should demonstrate the same maturity as was in the NDC parliamentary primaries.

She said they should be circumspect about messages on the social media because it had the potential of destroying the fabric of prevailing peace in the country as the political season gets near.

Ms Attivor promised them that the road through Abutia from Sokode to Juapong will be completed as a contract had been awarded for its execution.

Coexistence for development

In an address, the paramount chief of Abutia traditional area, Togbe Abutia Kdzo Gidi V said the cordial relationship between the early Christians and traditionalists was a healthy sign that had promoted the spirit of coexistence and development in the area.

He said the chiefs gave out land for the construction church buildings and schools from which many professionals and academicians had emerged.

“With the same common purpose that was identified with the past, Abutia is speedily rediscovering its past unity and cohesion and as a strong sign we are together supporting the establishment of a nurses training institution through this occasion,” he said.
