He said, despite the attempt to draw them into unnecessary confrontation, the service had maintained a firm and steady posture, " resisting all attempts to get you to overreact".

Mr Amissah-Arthur was addressing the graduation parade of intake 10 of officer cadet corps of the Ghana National Fire Service at the Army Recruit Training School at Shai Hills.

In all, 118 officer cadets made up of 20 serving officers and 98 new entrants with varied academic and professional qualifications graduated. Out of the graduands were 28 females.

The Vice President said the security agencies had performed a commendable role in providing security for the conduct of the elections, that had been described by many as transparent, free and fair.

"The iconic image Ghana transmitted throughout the world last week was that of patience and tranquility, as citizens stood in long meandering queues to exercise their right despite delays which were characterized by malfunctioning equipment," Mr Amissah-Arthur said.

He said the credit for the serene atmosphere that prevailed during the election could be attributed to the protective assurance provided by Ghana's security services, adding "your post election performance has been superb".

He said that now that the elections were over, there was the need for the security services to "get on with the business of meeting the legitimate aspirations of our people."

" The government will continue to work for a united Ghana to help build a 'Better Ghana' to improve the lives of our people". Mr Amissah-Arthur said.
