He said many people sacrificed their lives to develop Ghana, so there is the need to sustain it by protecting the peace and unity in the country.

“No investment is more than laying down one’s life to defend the sovereignty of the country from internal and external aggression. We have a duty to protect the lives of citizens, especially in an election year as we have at hand,” he stated.

Air Marshal Samson-Oje made that call at the first quarterly thanksgiving religious parade of the GAF in Accra yesterday and urged the army officers to be dedicated, selfless and diligent in the discharge of their duties.

The parade, which was held on the theme: “Unity in Diversity: Together We Can Achieve Our Mission”, and was attended by officers and personnel of the Army, Navy and the Airforce.

He called on the security officers to eschew apathy, complacency and unprofessional conducts that could compromise their professional integrity and put the country in a state of insecurity.

“You need to perform your duties in a way that will protect the good image of the GAF. You must at all times also protect the equipment of the GAF in your custody so that it will aid you in the performance of your duties,” he said.

Sermon

In his sermon, Rev. Col. William Jonfia (Retd), Past Bishop of the Winneba Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana and Past Chaplain General of the Ghana Armed Forces, urged the public to respect the elderly in society and people in authority.

He said the theme for the event was very relevant, considering the fact that peace must prevail among political parties, ethnic groups and other social groups to ensure peaceful elections.

“There is so much indiscipline and corruption in the country. The country is also ranked as one of the countries with so much filth. This is not good for us,” he said.
