Bagabaga College of Education admits 527 fresh students

The Bagabaga College of Education (BACE) in Tamale last Saturday held a matriculation ceremony for 527 students who gained admission into the college for the 2019/2020 academic year.

Out of a total of 1,398 applicants, only 527 students made up of 182 females and 345 males were offered admission to the college to study various programmes.

Promoting women education

In his welcome address, the Principal of the College, Dr Amadu Musah Abudu, expressed the institution’s commitment to support the education of women through its gender policies.

"I am glad to announce that the college is gender-friendly and will continue with its policies to give the opportunity of university education to women through the Gender Policy, as well as applicants from less endowed schools.

“In line with this paradigm, 34.5 per cent (182) of admitted students were females and the remaining 65 per cent (345) were males. This is an improvement over last year’s female admission of 25 per cent (131) while 75.5 per cent (375) of males were admitted,” he said.

Infrastructure

Dr Abudu indicated that the college was facing infrastructural challenges for which reason it could not admit many prospective applicants.

He, therefore, appealed to the government to assist the college with infrastructure, especially hostel facilities for students, lecture halls and tutors quarters to augment existing facilities for effective teaching and learning.

He also indicated that 49 students among those admitted this year were under government scholarship and called on them to study hard to make the government and the college authorities proud.

He advised the students to work hard and be of good behaviour to enable them to achieve academic excellence, saying “Your primary aim of coming here is to study and I urge you to channel your energies in that direction.”

For his part, the Registrar of the College, Mr Soale Buah, admonished the matriculants to study hard to serve as change ambassadors in their respective localities after completion.
