‘Be disciples of peace and reconciliation’

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Rt Rev. Dr Seth Agidi, has called on members of the church and the entire Christian fraternity to serve as faithful disciples in the promotion of peace and reconciliation in the country.

“Peace, unity and reconciliation are essential ingredients for the growth and development of our Church and society, and anyone who disagrees with this principle is not a dedicated Christian and a crusader of the church’s mission,” he emphasised.

Rt Rev. Dr Agidi was speaking during the graduation and consecration service for catechists and Church Musicians who have completed the E.P. Theological Seminary at Peki in the South Dayi District in the Volta Region.

Graduates

The ceremony witnessed the award of Diploma in Theology to nine graduates, including three females as trained Catechists, while four graduates received Certificate in Church Music.

He urged the newly trained catechists and musicians to act as faithful disciples of Christ in the proclamation of the gospel, and establishing effective working relationship with pastors and presbyters.

Rt Rev. Dr Agidi used the occasion to explain the reunion process embarked upon by the E.P. Church and the Global Evangelical Church, noting that the reconciliation initiative was an endorsement of the General Assembly, the highest decision-making body of the church, which no single person or group of persons could reverse.

He said the joint committee, comprising high-profile personnelities of the two churches, has chalked up significant progress and gains aimed at restoring a stable family reunion.

Rt Rev. Dr Agidi said the committee was yet to strategise on how to amicably dispense properties in the custody of the two churches in a manner acceptable to the parties involved, while considering an out-of-court settlement of cases pending before the law courts if possible.

Reconciliation

He affirmed the E.P Church’s commitment to a smooth reconciliation process aimed at arriving at a lasting peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationship with the Global Evangelical Church.

He called on pastors, catechists, presbyters and all members of the Church to remain resolute as faithful stewards of Christ and not allow themselves to be influenced or misled by people for selfish gains.

The Principal of the E.P. Theological Seminary, Rev. Dr Mac-Wilson Atakro, urged the graduates to be guided by the tenets of the Great Commission as Christian leaders whose conduct should be worthy of emulation.
