Details emerging from the case involving the two security guards at the Bolgatanga Girls' Senior High School (BOGISS) who are said to have defiled a 14-year-old student with special needs, indicate that they lured her by purchasing an Itel keypad mobile phone for her.
They are said to have taken advantage of the 14-year-old special needs student, who experienced a medical relapse/detachment requiring care at the time, and abused her not only on one occasion, but several times at different periods and different places before the incident was uncovered.
The acts by the two security guards were uncovered after the student was found using the mobile phone on the school compound and was questioned by the school's Dean of Discipline about how she acquired it.
She disclosed that it was Adams Nyaaba Iddrisu, the 72-year-old security guard at the school, who bought the phone for her.
This revelation prompted further questioning, during which the student disclosed that Iddrisu and another security guard, Elvis Adongo, 38, had engaged in sexual intercourse with her on several occasions on the school campus.
This came to light on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) when the case came up for hearing at the Bolgatanga Circuit Court.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Baliki Amidu Isaaka told the court in the brief facts that, the complainant, Ms Celestina Atuora, is the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Domestic Affairs at BOGISS, while the victim is a first-year student of the school.
The prosecution said the victim, described as a special child, was a boarder at the school and regularly charged her tablet at the security room after evening preparation.
It said investigations revealed that between June and July 2026, the two accused persons allegedly took advantage of the student's vulnerability and engaged in sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecution further alleged that the accused persons enticed the student with financial support and food and that Iddrisu bought the mobile phone for her.
It was the discovery of that phone in the student's possession that allegedly opened the door to further disclosures about the alleged incidents.
Alleged encounters within school
The prosecution said that during further questioning, the student allegedly disclosed that the two accused persons had sexual intercourse with her at different locations within the school.
The locations mentioned in the prosecution's account included the security room, an area behind the dining hall and a classroom in the Unity Block after evening prep.
Matter reported to police
The prosecution said the matter was reported to the police on July 23, 2026, by the complainant.
Following the report, the two accused persons were arrested and cautioned.
The court was told that investigations were still ongoing and that the docket was being prepared for submission to the Attorney-General's Office for advice.
The two accused persons are facing a charge of defilement, contrary to Section 101 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The Bolgatanga Circuit Court, presided over by Sumaila Nbache Ahmadu, has granted them bail in the sum of GH¢100,000.00 each, with two sureties, one of whom must be a worker earning not less than GH¢3,000 a month.
They are also required to report to the police once every two weeks.
The case has been adjourned to September 17, 2026.
