The programme, which was organised by the organisation in collaboration with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Organiser for the Ablekuma West Constituency,  Madam Evelyn Dzeketey, formed part of efforts to raise awareness of breast cancer among women in Ghana.

About 400 people from the community benefited from the programme, which was focused on breast cancer screening, as well as other general health practices. The women were also taught how to perform self-examination of the breast.

During the screening, about 100 women were referred to the Peace and Love Hospital which was being managed by Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, a specialist in breast pathology.

Laudable efforts

At the walk, Madam Dzeketey, lauded the organisation for championing the health of women in the country.

She said as part of the government’s agenda, the party would also continue to champion the cause of women in the country and urged the women to regularly examine their breasts.

For her part, Dr Addai said breast cancer could be treated if diagnosed early.

She said global efforts to control the disease had focused on early detection and prompt action, with evidence indicating that diagnosing breast cancer at an early stage could save both the woman’s breast and her life.

She, therefore, advised women to seek early treatment and also take proper care of themselves.
