The Cape Coast Metropolitan Police has embarked on an initiative to rehabilitate the police barracks and offices through support from individuals and organisations.

One project of significance the police have undertaken is the construction of a 28-seater water closet toilet facility. The new toilet replaces a dilapidated pit latrine the police personnel had been using for many years.

Previously, the 85 police personnel and their dependents made use of a 14-seater KVIP toilet. In fact, some personnel took advantage of the beach nearby as a place of convenience.

As part of the rehabilitation works, the barracks and offices have been re-painted and a monument with a plaque erected in honour of service personnel who had served at the police post.

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Police Commandant, Chief Superintendent Samuel Winful, through whose initiation the rehabilitation works were begun, said the reconstruction, which was started in September last year, was intended to give the police station a more hospitable look.

He said the rehabilitation work was being funded by public-spirited institutions and individuals in the metropolis while police personnel offered labour. Chief Superintendent Winful expressed his gratitude to all who have assisted the police in the restoration exercise.

Central Regional Command

The Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCOP Ransford Moses Ninson, commended the metropolitan police for undertaking the project. He said it had been more than a decade since the police station was rehabilitated.

He said the regional police command had also facilitated the repainting of the regional police headquarters and the Saltpond Police Barracks .  He said the Police Experimental Basic School in the centre of Cape Coast had also been relocated to the regional police headquarters.

According to him, work on the construction of regional police church was ongoing.

Assurance

He gave the assurance that the police would work to promote security in the metropolis and the region as a whole, as its contribution not only to the safety of the people, but also in the promotion of tourism.

He urged the public to volunteer information on criminal activities to the police in order to assist them bring wrongdoers to book, promising that the identity of informants would not be revealed.

DCOP Ninson commended the police personnel for their hard work and urged them to ensure that the ‘new’ police station was well maintained.
