Chief appeals for support for police
The chief of the Ewe community at Sapeiman Faase in the Ga West Municipality, Torgbui Agah Semaglo I, has called on the government to help provide the police with accommodation.
He explained that police personnel under the Amasaman Divisional Police Command lived far from their place of work because of lack of accommodation.
The development, he said, did not enable the police personnel to work effectively.
Speaking with the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday, Torgbui Semaglo asked the government to use part of a 150-acre plot of land it acquired for the Animal Research Institute, which had been abandoned for years, for such purpose.
“The area is now a breeding ground for snakes and the hiding place for armed robbers,” he said and added that the traditional authority was prepared to support the government to achieve that objective.
“We will even appeal to the people to contribute financially or support in the form of communal labour,” he said.

Later in an interview, the Amasaman District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Elvis Sadongo, confirmed that lack of accommodation was affecting the work of the police in the area.
He said currently, the divisional police commander and the municipal chief executive shared the same office.
