The Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr Yu Zhengsheng, has lauded the contribution of the Jospong Group of Companies to the manufacturing sector in Ghana and the West African sub-region.

According to him, the contribution did not only go a long way to support the economic development of the country but also attracted the needed investments, while providing jobs for the youth of Ghana.

Mr Yu gave the commendation when he toured the Jospong Industrial Park in Accra yesterday to acquaint himself with the operations of the park.

He was accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Sun Boahong,; Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Mr Anani Okuminyi; the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho; the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and some members of staff of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and the Jospong Group.

Jospong Industrial Park

The Jospong Industrial Park, established with the support of Tianjin Able Imports and Exports Company Limited of Beijing, China, comprises three plants, namely the vehicle assembly plant, a motorised tricycle plant and a plastic manufacturing centre.

The park operationalises the concept of importing trucks in the semi-and complete knock-down state (SKD/CKD) for refurbishment without compromising on the quality of the products.

Evidence-based relationship

Mr Yu said the operation of the Jospong Group, along with its Chinese counterpart, was a further testimony of the mutual and beneficial relationship  both countries were making good use of.

He expressed the hope that there would be more collaborative efforts between Chinese businessmen and entities in Ghana to help improve the business sector in Africa.

Treat all equally

Mr Adjaho, in his remarks, said it was important that the Jospong Group did not take the relationship it had with its Chinese counterpart for granted but made sure it treated fairly well the various Chinese expatriates with whom they worked.

He also urged them to ensure that there was continued knowledge transfer in whatever activity that they engaged in and urged other companies to emulate the efforts of Zoomlion in bringing in and retaining investors.

Chinese support laudable

In his remarks, Dr Agyepong said over the past five decades, there had been intensification of the mutually beneficial collaboration between China and Ghana, both in the private and the public sectors of the countries.

The Jospong Group, he said, had benefited substantially from that relationship through technical and financial support.

He said the company's capacity to assemble waste trucks and light-weight trucks in Ghana was a direct consequence of its partnership with China.

He said most of the equipment and the technology for setting up the assembly plant and the plastic manufacturing centre came from China.

Additionally, through the support of its Chinese partners, the company had been able to build a compost and recycling plant, quarry plants, a plastics injection and blowing plant, a jute factory, assembly plants and manufacturing centres.

Dr Agyepong added that with the needed support, engineering students from various polytechnics would have a place to train and in one way or another “we will be developing the nation through manufacturing”.
